About the fellowships
The Dutch Association for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is offering 8 fellowships each year. Applications can be made by residents in the last year of their training or by freshly qualified consultants (max of 2 years). A background in Plastic Surgery is considered to be highly preferable (if not essential), since the fellowship will only be useful if you can build on an already thorough knowledge of both theoretical and practical Plastic Surgical principles. In this way the fellow will be able to focus on the subject matters in a most efficient manner and, as a result, drastically shortening his or her learning curve.
The fellowship covers all aspects of Facial Plastic Surgery:
- Congenital
- Reconstructive
- Cosmetic
The fellowship offers hands-on experience, with scrubbing in when possible.
The first three months of the fellowship will be spent in the Netherlands. The fellow will be able to choose his or her own program, based on the surgical activity in 6 participating Hospitals and private clinics in the Rotterdam area. Dr Jacques van der Meulen supervises this part of the fellowship.
The second three months the fellow moves to one of the following units:
- Gent, Belgium, in the private clinic of dr Tonnard and Verpaele,
- Montreux, Switserland, in Laclinic with dr Michel Pfulg
- Stuttgart, Germany, with professor Wolfgang Gubisch
- London, UK, with Dr Adrian Grobbelaar.
Fellowships start every 3 months (January, April, July, October). The closing date for the 2013 fellowship applications is 15th June 2012.
